Notban (놋반) Courtly Bangjja Yugi Spoon and Chopstick Set (2-Person)

Elevate your daily dining ritual with the Notban (놋반) Courtly Bangjja Yugi Spoon and Chopstick Set, a sophisticated offering that embodies Korea's ancient legacy of craftsmanship and health. This set is crafted from Yugi (놋그릇), a premium Korean brassware alloy prized for its unique composition and extraordinary antibacterial properties. Our specific method is Bangjja Yugi (방짜유기), which requires a rigorous hammering process with an optimal ratio of 78% copper (Guri) and 22% tin (Juseok), resulting in a durable, bright, and lighter utensil than typical brassware.

This Notban design draws inspiration from the royal court, or Gungjung (궁중), blending the timeless elegance of the Joseon Dynasty's favored materials with a modern, beloved aesthetic that offers an excellent grip. The phrase Anseong Matchum (안성맞춤) is intrinsically linked to Yugi, as the city of Anseong was historically renowned for crafting brassware that was "tailored to fit" or perfectly made. By choosing this set, you are not just acquiring flatware; you are bringing the wisdom of Korean ancestors into your home, ensuring your table is graced with utensils that are as hygienic eliminating food poisoning bacteria and having a sterilizing effect as they are beautiful.

💡 Care Instructions:

Daily Care: Gently hand wash immediately after use with a soft sponge and a neutral dish detergent. While Yugi is sturdy, avoid harsh scrubbing pads or abrasive cleaners. The unique characteristics of Yugi may cause it to naturally darken or develop a patina over time—this is normal.

Restoration (Patina Removal): To restore the original golden luster, use a commercial copper/brass cleaner or gently rub the surface with a coarse pad (like a scrub sponge) and fine grain salt or vinegar. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely after cleaning. DO NOT use a dishwasher; the harsh detergents will accelerate tarnishing and can damage the surface.

Artisanal Note: This Notban Yugi is designed to be lighter and more comfortable for daily use, not heavy and difficult to manage, embodying a blend of tradition and modern comfort.

🎁 A refined gift for collectors, or those who wish to experience Korea’s timeless brassware (Yugi) legacy and health-conscious dining culture.

Notban's Yugi products, honestly manufactured using traditional methods, can be used semi-permanently without breaking, and can even be melted down and reformed into new products.

방짜유기 (Bangjja Yugi)

Adherence to Traditional Manufacturing Methods

Our traditional Yugi refers to brassware/bronze bowls made from a copper and tin alloy, melted at a high temperature of 1200~1300℃, using the optimal alloy ratio of 78% copper and 22% tin.

In particular, the Yugi from Anseong has historically received the best assessment nationwide, which is the origin of the saying, '안성맞춤' (Anseong-matchum).

Notban operates a 100% self-owned manufacturing factory in Anseong.
Using traditional methods as they are, we aim to meet your eyes and hands with sensory designs that suit the modern table.

The Optimal Golden Ratio

Copper 78%, Tin 22%

Did you know that the moment Yugi pieces touch each other, they produce a sound close to 'brilliance/resplendence'?
Notban's honest Yugi reaches beyond your sight and taste to your hearing.

Copper 78%, Tin 22%. The Hertz you hear from the optimal 'Golden Ratio'.
The Yugi, possessing a clear and refreshing Hertz, goes beyond representing quality and even aligns its Hertz with the customer.

Notban Global

The Value of Tradition, to the World!

Notban's Bangjja Yugi is a Yugi bowl that fully embodies Korean tradition, and its value is now being recognized on the world stage. By incorporating the latest technology and adding a modern sensibility, we are leaving a deep impression on global consumers in terms of both quality and design.

After first challenging overseas exports in 2021, our export value soared by an astonishing 3,233% in 2023, validating our competitiveness in the global market. Notban's Bangjja Yugi is gradually increasing its recognition in the global market and expects even greater growth.

The 6 Beneficial Effects of Copper

1. 🧠 Brain Stimulation

It aids the synthesis of phospholipids, which are necessary for the formation of substances that stimulate the brain, thereby promoting vigorous brain activity.

2. 🍎 Weight Loss

It helps regulate the digestive system and efficiently breaks down fat in the body.

3. 🛡️ Cancer Prevention

It eliminates the side effects of active oxygen (free radicals), which is one of the main causes of cancer.

4. ✋ Anti-inflammatory Action

It has the function of relieving pain caused by inflammation and strengthening the bones and immune system.

5. 👵 Anti-Aging / Aging Prevention

It helps remove active oxygen (free radicals), regenerate cells, and create healthy skin.

6. 🦠 Antibacterial Action

  • Action: Research results have confirmed the reduction of microorganisms when food and clean water are stored in copper containers.

🧐 Is there a Problem with the Product?

1. The space between the fork tines is wide and slightly rounded.

  • Explanation: This is a natural phenomenon that occurs during the process of alloying the product's raw materials (copper and tin) and forging them. You can use it with confidence as there is no harm to the human body.

2. There are small pitting and marks on the surface.

  • Explanation: This phenomenon occurs because the Yugi products are handcrafted one by one in the casting (주물유기) manufacturing process. It does not affect the product's performance, so you can use it with confidence.

3. There are stains and yellow marks on the surface.

  • Explanation: Yugi is a product sensitive to temperature and humidity. The color of the product naturally changes depending on the acidity (산성도) of the food, which is a natural characteristic phenomenon of Yugi's nature. Marks and stains may appear due to the material's sensitivity to changes in temperature and humidity.

4. The size and weight of the products are all different.

  • Explanation: This is a phenomenon that occurs because each product is handcrafted one by one in the casting (주물유기) manufacturing process. The weight, thickness, and size of each product may vary.

⚠️Cautions

All products are handcrafted

  • All products are handcrafted, so there may be some differences in specifications, capacity, and slightly different shapes.
  • Because of this, returns and exchanges may be difficult, so please purchase carefully.

🚨 Be cautious about using steel wool/scouring pads

  • It is not recommended to use steel wool.
  • If Yugi, which is less hard than steel wool, is scratched, your skin may be injured.

🚨 Be cautious about discoloration due to food

  • If you place heavily seasoned food (like soy sauce), strong acidic food, or vegetables that contain pesticides in the bowl, the brass may oxidize and change color, so please be careful.

🚨 How to use when stains and blue/green rust appear

  • If the luster disappears or blue/green rust appears, one method is to mix baking soda and vinegar and boil the product, or use a commercial Yugi-specific detergent.

🚨 Other cautions

  • The value of the product decreases if Yugi, which is sensitive to fingerprints, discolors due to exposure to skin and air.
  • Be careful if you touch the product with your hands, as oil and grime can stick to it and cause discoloration.
  • If you want to remove stains, they will disappear if you polish the bowl with a dry scourer (such as a coarse green or brown scouring pad) when there is no moisture left on the item.

F & A

How should I wash the bronze vessel for the first time?

Soak the bronze vessel in lukewarm water mixed with 1L of vinegar and 2 cups of table salt for about an hour, then wash it with a new scrubber. This process helps tame the bronze and reduces water stains and tarnishing. It also helps the bronze's elegant golden sheen last longer.

How does the color of the bronze change over time?

If you use the bronze daily, it will acquire a deep golden luster after about 2-3 months. After this point, you can use it comfortably like regular tableware.

What should I do when the product's color changes and stains appear?

If discoloration and stains occur, soak the vessel in vinegar water for about an hour or rub the stained area with a scrubber designed exclusively for bronze vessels while the product is dry. (A dry 3M green scrubber can also be used.)

What should I do if the stains do not disappear?

Mix baking soda and baking powder in a 1:1 ratio with lukewarm water and soak the bronze vessel from evening until morning, then wash it thoroughly.

Are there any precautions for storage?

Bronze has excellent durability, so there are no restrictions on storage methods. However, make sure to remove moisture with a dry cloth after washing and store it to prevent discoloration and stains.

Also, bronze can tarnish when exposed to air over time, so please store it properly when not in use for a long period.

Are there any other precautions for use?

  • Be aware that it can scratch if used with food ingredients.
  • Dishwasher / Rice Cooker / Hot Water Disinfection / Oven / Microwave use is not possible.
  • Please avoid using it for a long time as discoloration and stains may occur easily.
