PEUM began with a feeling I could never quite pack into a suitcase.

Every time I land in Korea, it is the same. The air smells different — rain on old stone, pine somewhere up the hill, something warm drifting from a kitchen door left open. The wind moves differently through the alleys. My shoulders drop before I have even said hello. Somewhere between a low wooden table and the sound of a kettle, I am home in a way that has nothing to do with an address.

I live in Melbourne now, and for years I kept trying to carry that feeling back with me — a rice bowl wrapped in three jumpers, a norigae knotted to my bag, a square of bojagi cloth that made an ordinary shelf feel like somewhere. It worked. Friends would pick things up and ask where they were from. That question, asked often enough, became this shop.

품 — peum — is the space within an embrace: what you keep closest to your chest. We handpick jewellery, accessories and objects for living from artisans across Korea, every piece chosen as if we had made it ourselves — the colours of dancheong, the knot-work of maedeup, the drape of silk, the weight of a bowl thrown by hand. We name the maker, the region, the technique, because provenance is not a label; it is the story you hold.

This is not Korea behind glass. It is Korea worn at the collarbone, set on a Tuesday table, given to someone who will understand it at first touch.
