Flat enough for a drawer, far too beautiful to hide in one.

A slim rectangular Korean jewellery box covered edge to edge in white mother-of-pearl, butterflies and vines coursing across the lid in violet, teal and rose, closed by a silver butterfly clasp.

The butterflies stand for joy and transformation in Korean craft, and the vines they follow are drawn unbroken, a line of continuing good fortune running the full length of the lid.

Inside, the lid carries a mirror and the interior is lined in luminous abalone, so jewellery rests on nacre rather than felt.

At 22.6cm across and 6cm tall it suits shallow drawers, dressers and display alike. The tray-box that makes getting ready feel considered.

Handcrafted in South Korea. Each box varies subtly in shell iridescence — this is the character of najeon.
