Artisan Info

The original Chochungdo series is attributed to Sin Saimdang (申師任堂, 1504–1551) — poet, calligrapher, and one of the most celebrated female artists of the Joseon Dynasty. The works, now held in the National Museum of Korea (Accession No. 3550), are admired for their delicate brushwork, vivid colour, and quietly composed energy.

Each of the eight panels depicts a different corner of the natural world — watermelons, mice, butterflies — observed with the patient attention of a master. So beloved were these paintings that they were later reproduced as embroidery patterns, carried into everyday Korean life through thread and cloth.

Care Instructions

Before you open it, you notice the cover — and that is entirely the point.

The Chochungdo Silk Hardcover Notebook takes its design from a detail of Chochungdo — Korea's traditional genre of painting depicting insects, birds, and the natural world in exquisite, unhurried detail. This edition carries a floral motif: blooms rendered with the careful attention to natural form that defines Chochungdo at its best. The silk cover is soft to the touch and quietly striking on a desk, its colours shifting slightly depending on how the light falls across it.

At 135 × 190mm, it sits comfortably in the hand; the unlined interior leaves space for whatever you bring to it — sketching, journaling, keeping notes from a class or a trip — and a ribbon marker holds your place without fuss. Korean heritage stationery made for those who want an object with a story behind it, not just a surface to write on.

Handcrafted in South Korea, inspired by the Chochungdo painting tradition.
