A miniature Korean jewellery chest in deep garnet lacquer: two drawers with butterfly pulls, a flared top and scalloped feet, every surface worked with cranes, lotus and flowering branches in hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl.
The cranes above the drawers carry a thousand years of life. The lotus rises clean from muddy water, Korea's emblem of purity. And the butterflies on the pulls add a small joy to the opening of every drawer.
The form echoes traditional Korean chests, and the 23cm height gives necklaces and stacked pieces a proper home without claiming the dresser.
