It catches the light before it catches your reflection.

A palm-sized compact mirror finished in Korean najeon, the centuries-old craft of setting hand-cut abalone shell into deep lacquer. A slim silver-tone frame holds a dual mirror inside.

Each of the seven designs carries a traditional Korean symbol. The crane promises long life. The butterfly speaks of joy and transformation. The peony brings wealth and honour, the twin phoenixes grace and harmony, and the Hangeul design honours the Korean alphabet itself. Choose the meaning as much as the pattern.

At 7.7cm it slips into any bag without announcing itself, and opens like a small ceremony every time.

Keep one in a handbag, set one on a dressing table, or give one as a wedding favour, a bridesmaid thank-you, a keepsake for someone far from Korea. The mother-of-pearl does the rest.

Handcrafted in South Korea. Each piece varies subtly in shell iridescence — this is the character of najeon.
