Notban's Square Chopstick Rest is cast from Bangjja Yugi (방짜유기) — the same hammered Korean brassware alloy used for their spoons and soju cups. Clean geometry, minimal surface, natural antibacterial properties: a small piece that holds its position without asking for attention. The Anseong Matchum tradition values the detail work as much as the centrepiece, and this rest reflects that — the same material quality as the Sujeo (수저) it supports, not a lesser companion piece. At 20 × 70 mm, it sits flush to the table and places the utensil exactly where it belongs.
Set alongside a Notban spoon and chopstick pair, the brass reads consistently from utensil to rest, completing the table composition. Used at a formal Korean meal where each element of the setting has been considered, the rest signals that the host has thought through the detail. Our traditional Yugi refers to brassware/bronze bowls made from a copper and tin alloy, melted at a high temperature of 1200~1300℃, using the optimal alloy ratio of 78% copper and 22% tin.
In particular, the Yugi from Anseong has historically received the best assessment nationwide, which is the origin of the saying, '안성맞춤' (Anseong-matchum).
Notban operates a 100% self-owned manufacturing factory in Anseong.
