Two sections. A single chrysanthemum. Enough structure to keep things ordered; enough restraint to keep the table calm.
The 이절판 (Ijeolpan) is a two-section rectangular plate from Tovy's Gobaekja series — a contemporary reading of Baekja (백자), the white porcelain that the Joseon court prized for its disciplined simplicity. The creamy matte surface carries one hand-painted chrysanthemum (국화, Gukhwa), positioned to leave the rest of the form clean. The chrysanthemum is one of the Sagunja (사군자, Four Gentlemen) — plants in Korean culture associated with the virtues of the scholar: fidelity, integrity, and endurance. The form uses the Korean concept of Danjung (단정) — neatness as an aesthetic value, not merely a functional one. Microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe.
Used to serve two different banchan side dishes with clear separation, the ijeolpan form is designed precisely for this arrangement. Laid across the centre of a dinner table as a shared condiment plate — one section for dipping oil, one for sauce — it brings quiet order to the shared moment of eating. Gifted as a practical yet considered addition to a ceramic collection, it sits naturally alongside the other pieces in the Gobaekja Chrysanthemum range.
For a table that takes its quiet seriously. Handcrafted in South Korea for Tovy.
